Job Description:

The Executive Director and the Board of Directors of the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry (Co-Op) continuously seek to discern God’s will regarding the leadership and management of the Co-Op. The Board anticipates that the Executive Director will have a sense of call to the Co-Op’s ministry and will strive to carry out all responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Co-Op’s mission statement, which is:

 

The mission of the Co-Op is to glorify God and to demonstrate God's love.  The Co-Op is an intentionally Christian organization seeking to honor the Lordship of Jesus Christ in word and deed by following His example in sharing and caring for neighbors in need.  The Co-Op seeks to preserve clients' dignity while encouraging self-responsibility and spiritual growth.

Primary areas of accountability for the Executive Director include: 

                                                          

•     Leadership of the Co-Op. The Executive Director establishes strategies and procedures to effectively implement the Co-Op’s mission statement and Board-approved programs and priorities. 

 

•     Church and Community Relations. The Executive Director establishes and maintains effective working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community churches, other nonprofit organizations, donors, funders, local government officials, and other entities with goals compatible with those of the Co-Op. The Executive Director represents the Co-Op in a variety of public settings and regularly accepts invitations to speak on behalf of the Co-Op.

 

•     Operational Planning and Management. The Executive Director engages volunteers and other Co-Op staff to effectively provide approved client services. Operations for which the Executive Director is responsible include client in-take, volunteer recruitment and training, staff hiring and development, food donations and distribution, client financial assistance, donor relations, facility maintenance, and financial management. All Co-Op staff and volunteers report to the Executive Director.

 

•     Program Evaluation, Planning and Implementation. The Executive Director establishes methods for monitoring the effectiveness of existing programs and recommends changes when needed. The Executive Director also recommends new programs and policies as deemed appropriate and implements those that are approved by the Board of Directors.

 

•     Relationship with Board of Directors. The Executive Director arranges for administrative support for meetings of the Co-Op’s Board of Directors, attends Board meetings, provides informative reports for each Board meeting, and provides timely, mission-oriented proposals for consideration by the Board.

 

 

Qualifications & Expectations. The Board of Directors has specified the following qualities desired for the Co-Op’s Executive Director:

  • Committed Christian who actively participates in the life of a congregation;
  • Undergraduate degree or comparable experience in business administration, human resources management, social services or another faith-based or service-related field;
  • Five or more years of work history, preferably in a nonprofit environment;
  • Supervisory experience, including working with volunteers;
  • Skill in interpersonal and written communication, public speaking, problem solving and trouble-shooting;
  • Ability to effectively use word processing software, e-mail, and social media;
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with the ability to inspire excellence in work performed by volunteers and other staff.
