Cherry Hills is seeking experienced candidates for an open Children and Family Ministry Director position.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum 2 years’ experience as the leader over a children’s or youth ministry, excellent communication skills in relating to both adults and children, and experience in skillfully leading both volunteer- and staff-led teams.  The ideal candidate will also have experience in developing, managing and implementing a budget, and a degree in a discipline appropriately related to children’s ministry.  In addition, we are looking for a person who embraces a ministry approach which includes not only children but the entire family, to come along side parents as they disciple their children throughout the week. 

 

Cherry Hills is a healthy evangelical, non-denominational church with a Sunday attendance around 1,400 persons.  We enjoy excellent staff relations and we seek to add staff members who value being an integral part of a vibrant, collaborative work environment.  We hope to fill this vacancy as a Director-level position but will consider applications from pastors with appropriate qualifications.

 

 

 

                                                         Children and Family Ministry Director

                                                                       Position Description

 

 

Position Overview:

The purpose of this position is to assume responsibility for all children’s ministry activities for children 5th grade and younger, and to provide oversight and direction for the academic year Pre-school.  This position serves under the direction of the Administrator.  The Administrator in conjunction with the Lead Pastor will be responsible for formally evaluating the performance annually.

 

Position Description:

This position will ensure that children below the 5th grade level and their families will find a welcoming environment and appropriate Biblical education in a safe and appropriate Sunday morning or pre-school setting. This will include involving parents as appropriate in understanding and coming alongside the children’s learning environment to foster providing a home environment where Jesus Christ is known and honored and loved.  The position will work to ensure the educational and fiscal viability of the academic Pre-School, and will be responsible for submitting and adhering to the ministry’s budget.

 

Duties:

All staff members are expected to display a Christ-like character when interacting with each other, church members, staff, and guests as well as understand and fully support the Cherry Hills’ vision and culture.  This position ministers to children in 5th grade and younger, and their families.  The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure preparation for Sunday mornings:

o   Provide leadership for all related educational programs, including the selection and purchase of curricula for Sunday morning worship service, small groups and Sunday School, and make sure rooms are equipped with necessary supplies.

o   Select, screen, train and nurture volunteers and substitutes for children’s ministry.

o   Provide leadership and oversight to volunteers by communicating regularly and effectively with them.

  • Provide leadership for Special Events in Children’s Ministry.  Potential special events include summer camp, Mission Mornings, Fall Outreach, Summer Serving Opportunities, VBS, etc.
  • Provide oversight of the Preschool academic program

o   Provide supervision of the Preschool Ministries Director.

o   Assist with revisions and changes to the staffing and program activities as necessary.

  • Supervise Children’s Ministry Staff

o   Provide supervision, direction and training for the Childcare Coordinator, Nursery Coordinator, Preschool Ministries Director, Sunday Morning Preschool Ministries Assistant, and Elementary Children’s Assistant.

o   Lead and direct Children Ministry interns

o   Hold regularly scheduled Children’s Ministry staff meetings to nurture team chemistry.

 

  • Minister to children and their families to provide spiritual direction

o   View the ministry as a partnership between the church and families. Design creative and helpful ways to teach parents how to better disciple their children.

o   Counsel children and parents (when necessary) seeking spiritual direction.

o   Maintain ongoing communication with parents to keep them engaged in the programs in which their children are participating, and visit them at home, etc. as appropriate.

o   Provide guidance on baptism and participate in the baptism of children.

  • Develop, manage, and implement the budget for the ministry

 

Qualifications:

 

This individual will demonstrate a belief in and relationship with Jesus Christ and will affirm that they will provide for their own continued spiritual health through daily devotions, prayer and Scripture reading.

  • Possess a degree in a discipline appropriately related to children’s ministry.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as the leader over children’s or youth ministry
  • Experience in developing, managing, and implementing a budget
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills in relating to both adults and children
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in leading both volunteer and staff-led teams
  • Hold the value that this is not just a children’s ministry but a family ministry. Believe deeply that the best disciple makers in the child’s life are their parents, and work towards ministering to the family, not just the child on a Sunday morning.

Work Environment:  This job operates in a professional office environment and requires flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
