School Music Instructor K-8/Assistant Worship Leader

Responsibilities:

This individual will inspire and motivate students to appreciate the art of music as part of general culture.  Through classroom instruction, this person will teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental musical expression; discover and develop the talent of students in the field of music; and develop students’ knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.  This person is a team player who enjoys the process of collaborating with other staff members regarding students’ participation in choirs, concerts, singing in church, holiday programs and/or seasonal musicals.  These responsibilities will make up 75-80% of the job.

This individual will also partner closely with the Church Worship Leader.  Responsibilities here will include supporting music selection for church or special programs, accompanying adult choir rehearsals, and leading music in worship, as needed.  Outstanding organization skills, flexibility and a genuine love of music is key for the individual who is successful in this role. These responsibilities will make up 20-25% of the job.

Required Qualifications:

1. Valid state teacher certification granted by the Professional Teaching Standards Board
2. BA/BS degree (major or minor in music preferred)
3. Expert level ability on the piano
4. Proficient level ability to sing
5. Any variety of experience with children’s music facilitation (K-8 preferred)
6. Experience playing a role in leading corporate worship for a church
7. Available to lead 2 to 6 worship services each month  (Currently Service Options are: 5pm CST Saturday evening, 8:15am CST Sunday morning, or 10:45am CST Sunday morning)

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Proficient level ability to play guitar
