POSITION FOCUS DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:                           Elementary Director

DEPARTMENT:             Family Ministries

REPORTS TO:              Kids’ Minister

TERM:                           Permanent, Part-time (approximately 30 hours per week)

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:            

Partnering in the development, coordination, oversight, evaluation and staffing in all areas of elementary ministry from pre-kindergarten through 4th grade. Building relationships with kids, parents and volunteers through Sunday morning, midweek, special events, personal communications and other ministry settings. Participating as a vital member of the Switch Kids leadership team. Being a team player providing clerical and creative support to the Family Ministries Team. This role includes helping plan effective elementary ministry efforts, providing thorough administrative support, interacting gracefully with a variety of people representing our Family Ministries Team. This position requires flexibility, careful attention to detail, a high level of administrative skill, a love for God, children, parents and superior people skills.

 

POSITION GOALS:

  • Create exciting learning and relational environments for children to increase their understanding of God’s love for them and encourage a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Support and partnership with parents in the spiritual formation of their children to reinforce our belief that what happens at home is more important.
  • Ensure sound and relevant curriculum is selected and used that teaches Biblical principles and truths appropriate for the various developmental levels within the ministry purview.
  • Assist in the development of a strong volunteer team by implementing dynamic recruiting, training, motivating and support systems that will in turn be able to reach the lost, disciple the found and inspire all children to live as fully-devoted followers of Christ.
  • Contribute as a team member to Switch Kids leadership team and the Olathe Bible Church staff team.

 

SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The Director of Elementary Ministries (DEM) will have a personal testimony of salvation and a vibrant daily walk with the Lord as well as a strong sense of God’s call to ministry in this particular area.  They must be committed to continuous personal, spiritual and professional growth.
  • A clear call to ministry and with a specific vision to reach kids for Christ is essential.
  • The DEM will set an example and serve as a role model in both their professional and personal life.  The DEM must be gifted in communication, administrative, organizational, and people skills and possess the spiritual gifts that are relevant to this ministry position. 
  • Must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ who is able to endorse and support the Olathe Bible Church statement of faith and church covenant.
  • Demonstrates Christian maturity and a deep and prayerful dependence upon God.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position are outlined below.  Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

 

  • Maintains familiarity and enforcement of all ministry and church policies and procedures.
  • Weekly attendance in corporate worship service and active participation in OBC LIFE Group.
  • Coordinate recruitment and training of ministry volunteers and substitutes, plus leaders of specific activities.
  • Communication with volunteers, children, youth and parents of children.   Volunteers' meetings, training opportunities, mailings, newsletter articles, conversations, website postings, and other means will be utilized.
  • Assist in the review and selection of curriculum materials and educational tools for children's ministries programs.
  • Attendance on Sunday mornings for ministry responsibilities, assist in class as needed, answer questions, general coordination: "being in charge." 
  • Attendance on Wednesday evenings for ministry responsibilities, assist as needed, answer questions, general coordination.
  • Assist in summer kid’s ministry settings and special events as assigned and required.
  • Contact visitors and new families with children as required.
  • Participation in Kids staff meetings for team building, prayer, support and planning.
  • Participation in weekly OBC staff gatherings, lunches and other meetings / activities as planned.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies, purchasing supplies as needed.
  • Establish ministry goals and objectives by prioritizing related programs, managing the use of facilities, planning an appropriate budget, delegating tasks and evaluating progress regularly.
  • Oversee curriculum ordering, room usages, equipment and supplies
  • Make personal contact with children and their families; be available to counsel and make referrals when needed.
  • Models leadership and authenticity in appearance, life and words.
  • Stays current with innovations and developments in children’s ministry and children’s issues.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment, procedures, and practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, email, and internet usage
  • Ability to learn to use Fellowship One, ServiceU, Robly and other software
  • Use of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and correspondence formats
  • Organizational skills to effectively organize and coordinate systems and projects
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Good communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Maintain a positive and uplifting demeanor
  • Understand and carry out verbal and written directions
  • Work independently in the absence of direct supervision
  • High flexibility regarding work hours, tasks, supervisory styles and assignments
  • Willingness to become a member of Olathe Bible Church and regularly attend services
  • Possess professional verbal and writing skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs
  • High School Diploma or GED
