Summary:

We desire to hire a solo/senior pastor with a passionate, personal, growing faith which is evident to others from his actions and spiritual fruit.  Highly desirable qualities include gifting & experience in: preaching Scripture-driven, theme-formatted, applicable messages; leading through motivating others in shared vision/goal strategies & equipping/mentoring of believers in the application of their spiritual and practical gifts; and developing inspiring worship experiences, edifying discipleship opportunities, & effective evangelism efforts.  Our pastor will also encourage and assist the growth of our congregation’s strengths: children’s ministry, youth ministry, and local/home-based missions. We desire a pastor who’s active in the local communities and lives in New Albin - serving as the community’s pastor.

Responsibilities & Duties:

We have prioritized (from most to least important) both the four categories and the elements within each to best obey what God has called us to as His church in our community

Preacher/Teacher –

  • Pursue relationship with God through personal time in the Word and in prayer (Titus 1:9)
  • Engage in prayer, study, & preparation to deliver quality, relevant Biblical messages (Ephesians 4:11-12, Titus 2:1)
  • Present Scripture-driven, theme-formatted, applicable messages which proclaim the full Gospel of Jesus Christ from the entire Bible (1 Timothy 4:13, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Timothy 4:2)
  • Develop & facilitate inspiring worship experiences, including times of observing the ordinances of the church

Equipper/Discipler –

  • Develop edifying discipleship opportunities for believers at all stages of spiritual maturity
  • Equip and mentor believers in the application of their spiritual and practical gifts for God’s glory (Ephesians 4:11-13)
  • Disciple and hold accountable church leadership (elders, ministry team leaders, etc.) in their personal growth, prayer for the church, and ministry leadership
  • Lead the church in keeping the focus on the purpose for which God has called us together as a church
  • Motivate the church toward a shared vision, including the development & implementation of goals & strategies

Shepherd/Pastoral Care –

  • Maintain character above reproach, a faithful life worthy of emulation (1 Timothy 3:2-5,7, Titus 1: 6-8, 1 Peter 5:2-3)
  • Actively develop relationships by engaging with those in the church and the community, knowing people and their needs (John 10:11-14)
  • Lead in the development and implementation of effective evangelism efforts
  • Regularly visit members of the church, regular attendees, and visitors where they are
  • Lead the church to care for the spiritual welfare of each other and others (Acts 20:28-31)
  • Lead the elders in providing care, counseling, and Biblical discipline in Christian love to the church and community (James 5:19-20)

 

Responsibilities & Duties: (continued)

Servant Leader/Administrator –

  • Contribute as a voting member of the Elder Board toward the spiritual oversight and business operations of the church
  • Provide the administrative leadership necessary for pursuit of the church’s purpose
  • Serve as an ex-officio member and consultant to the church’s ministry teams, boards committees, etc.

 

Qualifications:

Required Elements –

  • Provide a clear testimony to his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and exhibits the fruit of a true Christian life
  • Meet biblical qualifications of pastor as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4
  • Holds without reservations, to the Statement of Faith of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA)
  • Be ordained by the EFCA or be willing to commit to actively pursuing ordination with the EFCA
  • Exhibits the spiritual gift of the pastor/teacher as found in Ephesians 4:11-13

Preferred Elements –

  • Has obtained (or is pursuing) a related master’s degree
  • Has prior transferable experience
  • Has the ability to connect with and incorporate into the life of the church the next generations (young families, youth, etc.)
  • Is willing to consider living in the town of New Albin, IA and, if he has children, to consider having his children attend local schools

 

Accountability:

  • First, and foremost, the pastor is accountable to God
  • Secondly, accountable to the church body via their elected representatives: the Elder Board
  • Will meet at least annually for accountability with the Elder Board…
  • to review progress in fulfilling pastoral duties
  • to determine progress as a church body in fulfilling the church’s Purpose Statement
  • to provide an intentional time to address concerns & needs of the pastor
