Reports to: Executive Director                                    Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000                                          

Organization

MarriageTeam trains Christian couples to be marriage coaches and places couples with coaches.  MarriageTeam has helped more than 1500 couples since 2006.  The vision is to provide effective and affordable Christian marriage coaching services nationally to strengthen and save marriages with biblically based coaching.

Position Summary

The Development Director ensures MarriageTeam has an effective development program consistent with the highest standards and Biblical stewardship principles to meet growing mission requirements.  This will include all aspects of discipling constituents in their walk with the Lord, raising funds, and providing high-touch, personal communications with constituents.

General

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to set fund development goals, establish annual budget, and create and execute a development strategy consistent with biblical stewardship.
  • Maintains frequent and engaging two-way verbal and written communications with all constituents to include donors, volunteers, prayer partners, board members, and foundations.

Major Gifts (50%)

  • Cultivates and develops major givers by planning, coordinating and conducting steward discipleship meetings, community leaders, foundations, and organizations.
  • Researches, identifies and solicits potential contributors for special projects.
  • Equips, encourages and cultivates ownership for personal solicitation to the Board and coach couples according to special interests or capabilities.
  • Informs potential contributors of special needs and encourages individuals, corporations, and foundations to contribute through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests.
  • Presents MarriageTeam to various constituencies and audiences clearly communicating all aspects of its vision and services.

Annual Events and Campaigns (15%)

  • Schedules, plans, organizes and directs large and small events and activities such as, auctions or awareness dinners; enlists support from staff and volunteers.
  • Develops public relations materials to promote development opportunities.
  • Organizes drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Leads the year-end giving drive.

Administration (15%)

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of staff and volunteers engaged in maintaining records of contributors and grants and preparing letters of appreciation for contributors.
  • Maintains relationships with National Christian Foundation and Mission Increase Foundation in their advisory and support roles.
  • Uses written skills to communicate effectively with constituents through letters, newsletters, e-mail, proposals, budgets, and strategic plans.

Grants (10%)

  • Oversees research of public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify other sources of funding for research, community service, or other projects.
  • Works to establish personal working relationship with foundations and ensures grant proposals for special projects are written as required.  

Knowledge

  • Broad knowledge of the scriptural principles of stewardship, fundraising and the gift cycle.
  • Understand the needs and interests of key partners and develops a Participation, Engagement, and Ownership (PEO) strategy to strengthen their relationship and participation
  • Desirable: Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be a relationship oriented people person who desires the best for others. Able to work with constituents, board members, community and business leaders, and potential donors.
  • Problem-solving, research and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail, high level of comfort in planning financial strategy that gets results and persistence in the process of growing constituents. 
  • Able to effectively communicate the MarriageTeam vision and mission in such a way that helps constituents become more faithful, joyful, and obedient stewards for the Lord.  
  • Able to lead a biblically based development program or significant transferrable skills.
  • Able to speak effectively in front of an audience.
  • Able to manage a largely volunteer development team.
  • Able to work with outside sources for marketing and other development activities.
  • Travel around the region; some weekend and evening work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors (Non-profits, Business or Financial Management preferred) or equivalent experience; masters desired.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in development with a successful track record.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative and ability to work independently to achieve results.
  • Management experience with minimum one direct report.
  • Passion for strengthening and saving marriages.
  • Mandatory: Must complete marriage coach training once employed.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in ACT, MS Office, Desktop Publishing and QuickBooks desired.
  • Experience with donor development software, preferably FrontStream/Gift Works.
