Position Title: Contemporary Worship Leader

Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Category: Part-time, Salaried, 10-hours/week

The Contemporary Worship Leader is responsible for creating authentic and dynamic worship for a new worship experience designed to reach our target audience: young families and those under 35.  Working with the pastor you will recruit, rehearse, lead, and encourage musicians, vocalists, and worship techs who are in love with the Lord and desire to reach this generation for Christ.

 

Qualifications

•Acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior and lead worship out of an intimate relationship with Christ.

•Demonstrate personal maturity and godliness, growing in conformity to the image of Christ.

•Become an active member of Hudson First United Methodist Church.

•Possess the heart of a pastor – not just the skills of a band leader or musician.

•Possess a passion and commitment to inclusive multi-generational worship for our target audience.

 

Worship

•Leads worship as a worshipper, a growing Christ follower, a pastor, and a musician.

•Intentionally lead people to encounter God in worship (not just lead the band).

•Creates energy, life, and enthusiasm by example.

•With the pastor, plan and lead weekly (theme-based series) and special occasion worship.

•With the pastor, create, evaluate, and improve weekly worship (including graphics, worship sets, sound, lighting, and video systems, and volunteers).

•Stay connected with the latest in worship technology (audio, visual, lighting, etc.) and maintain high production quality that effectively reaches our target audience.

•As needed, lead worship for special events (weddings, funerals, etc…)

 

Administration

•Team: Attend Monday Staff and Worship Design meetings as an active participant.

•Music: Prepare all music (Lead Sheets, Charts, etc.) for the worship team.  Incorporate tracks and clicks. Create an evolving playlist of current, target audience related music.

•Stage Set Up: Make sure the stage is completely set for practice and Sunday worship.

•Ministry: Identify, recruit, develop, schedule, and encourage worship leaders and volunteers.

•Budget: Create and manage an annual budget in cooperation with other staff and the Finance team.

 

Desired Skills and Abilities

•“Fits”(Character, Chemistry, and Competency) with this church and staff.

•A team player who works well with church staff, leadership, members, and guests.

•A mature and growing Christ follower and leader (1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1).

•Proficient knowledge of contemporary music/instruments. The ability to sing, play a lead instrument.

•Proficient knowledge of audio/visual technology and products (lighting, cameras, video, media, etc.)

•Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

•Personable and coachable - self-discipline, spiritual, physical, and emotional health are important.

•Confident in stage presence and public speaking.

•Spiritual gifts of leadership, humility, creativity, and administration.

•Creative and innovative – must bring freshness and variety to our on-going worship experience.

•Teach and create a culture of reproducing worshippers. 

Note: this is a family worship leader, not a youth pastor/musician, position.
