The Local Outreach Coordinator will play a pivotal role in connecting Buncombe Street Methodist Church with our local community. This position will primarily develop and implement meaningful outreach opportunities in Greenville but will also assist in the
administrative and coordination efforts of BSMC’s Missions and Outreach program.
The ideal candidate is someone with a genuine heart for missions, a deep connection to the Greenville community, and serving the unreached. Additionally, experience in project and people coordination with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse, and
rapidly changing environment will ensure success in this role. This position will be in person but will have some flexibility to work remotely.
Position Responsibilities- Essential

Community Outreach (50%)
- Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, school counselors, nonprofit leaders, and existing mission partners
- Engage in regular conversations with neighboring church leaders to foster collaboration and shared initiatives
- Develop, promote, and launch consistent local outreach initiatives based on needs and alignment with church vision and mission
- Recruit, train, and equip volunteer teams as needed
- Provide financial crisis assistance when appropriate for members, member referrals, staff, and specific partner referrals
Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
- Mange event and volunteer registrations, ensuring a smooth flow of information
- Update Realm (Church platform) to maintain accurate and up-to-date records
- Oversee the Safe Sanctuary Process for Missions to ensure all volunteers have been trained for serving vulnerable populations
- Establish a system for collecting and analyzing data to measure the effectiveness of outreach programs
- Prepare regular reports for church leadership, highlighting successes, challenges, and areas for improvement
Missions Communication (20%)
- Assist with Missions Newsletter as needed
- Assist with Missions Wall as needed
- Implement new ideas and ways to share stories of missions and outreach within the church and community
Other Duties (10%)
- Attend staff meetings, Missions Committee Meetings, and other collaborative meetings as needed
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Missions & Outreach

Essential Skills and Experience

- Alignment with Vision and Values of Buncombe Street Methodist Church
- Passion for and personal experience in mission engagement: local, domestic, and international
- Demonstrate respect for people of all cultures, races, and religions
- Familiarity with Greenville and working knowledge of non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting marginalized communities
- 2-3 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a church or non-profit setting.
- High degree of flexibility
- Self-motivated with excellent time management skills
- Ability to demonstrate servant leadership and work collaboratively in planning, organizing, and leading volunteers
- Strong organizational, administrative, and financial management skills. Ability to effectively prioritize and to discreetly handle confidential information
- Successful goal setting, follow up, and achievement skills
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite and willingness to learn and effectively utilize church software tools
- Experience with Canva and Constant Contact highly preferred
- Must be willing to attend evening and weekend meetings and events as necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- A valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Level II background check
