Position Description

House Parents  – Amarillo Children’s Home

Are you and your spouse passionate about helping children succeed? Amarillo Children’s Home is seeking a married husband and wife living in the US to work together as House Parents for at-risk youth.

Established in 1924, Amarillo Children’s Home is a haven where children from backgrounds of abuse and neglect thrive in a Christ-centered, family setting.  Our mission is to restore the identity of children that they will realize their great value and become a blessing to others.

House Parents lead a household of 6-8 children ages K-12 (grouped by ages, and by gender in teen homes) who live at Amarillo Children's Home.  Our House Parent couples take children to school and church, prepare meals, help with homework, take the family on vacation, and much more.  They’re the ones who guide, challenge and encourage children to be their best.  They receive training and support from a caring administrative team who are available to help 24/7.

We offer competitive salaries ($45,600/couple) plus excellent benefits, including a private apartment with utilities, a grocery allowance, a robust health insurance plan, paid time off as early as 3 months after hire, and a 401k retirement plan with up to 4% match. For more, visit http://www.amarillochildrenshome.org/careers.

Both spouses must be 21 + years of age, married, fluent in English, have a valid drivers' license and good driving record, pass drug and tuberculosis screenings, and pass thorough background checks.  Must be eligible to work in the US.  Experience working with youth (1 yr or more) is preferred. Must have at least a high school diploma or GED; college coursework in social work, psychology, education or a related field is preferred. Up to two of your own children and one pet may live with you on campus.  Due to steps in our screening and selection process, at this time we are not accepting applications from couples who live outside the US.  US citizens temporarily living abroad may be considered if willing to travel at their own expense to our location for interviews.

- Please include a cover letter indicating that you are a couple who desire to do this work together, and briefly tell what interests you about being House Parents. If interested, please contact Dianne Hill or John Emmitt at Amarillo Children’s Home, 3400 S. Bowie St.,  Amarillo, TX. 79109 by email, HR@amarillochildrenshome.org. You may also call us at 806-352-5771.
