Then & Now

First Baptist Church began in 1958 under the banner of Calvary Baptist Church.  Through the years, several full time and interim pastors have faithfully served and ministered to a varying number of congregational members.  Affiliated with Transformation Ministries, we currently have approximately 45 active members attending Sunday morning services, with 5 to 10 attending adult Sunday school beginning at 9:00am.  Men and women bible study classes are held Wednesday evenings with a two to three-month break, typically during the summer.  Church property consists of the old original sanctuary with adjoining offices, storage rooms, kitchen and fellowship hall.  The new and larger sanctuary with adjoining classrooms and library was built in the early 90s.  All structures sit on 7.75 acres of land and are fully paid for.

Community History

Ridgecrest and the adjoining town of Inyokern are in the Indian Wells Valley on the northern fringe of the Mojave Desert. They are, to a considerable extent, economically dependent on the operations of Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake.  The base was originally established in 1943 as Naval Ordinance Test Station in Inyokern then moved to its present location adjacent to Ridgecrest in 1945.  Some say that Ridgecrest is in the middle of nowhere but the center of everywhere as within a few hours’ drive you can experience the lowest point in North America, Badwater Basin (-282 feet) in Death Valley National Park, or the highest point in the contiguous United States, Mt. Whitney (14,494 feet) located in the majestic Eastern Sierras.  For a further look into the fascinating history of Ridgecrest and NAWS China Lake, please visit the following link: http://www.high-desert-memories.net/index.html

Vision for our Church &

Community

In the unmistakable and undeniable times of the hurt, lost, broken and suffering world in which we now live, there are untold millions of men, women and children who have no dreams, future or hope.  Using that reality as our guiding principal, our vision is simple.  And that is to reach out to our fellow citizens through the power of the Holy Spirit with the unconditional love and unfailing promises of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  To that end, the Pastoral Search Committee’s goals are to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance in searching for and ultimately hiring a Senior Pastor who is of like mind and desires the challenge of leading us, on what together will possibly be, the spiritual journey of our earthly lives!
