Grace Christian Academy is a small international Christian school for mostly business families. We are currently serving 5 diplomatic families. GCA was founded in 1998 to give credentialed teachers the opportunity to share the Word of God freely, throughout their teaching. We are not a missionary school; only about 40% of our students are from Christian families. All teaching is conducted in English to students in grades 1-12, except for foreign language studies of Mandarin, French or Spanish. Our student body represents 30 countries from around the world. Our faculty is from 7 countries, yet primarily from the US. We are a WASC accredited school (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and follow a combination of Common Core and US State standards. The Language Arts standards are quite numerous compared to other subjects, however, these students have 2 class periods each day, which makes completing the standards a more reasonable task.
In regard to teaching the Bible, this position doesn’t call for teaching Bible classes, however, we welcome any integration of the Word of God into classes. Teachers have a morning devotional with a homeroom group. We are using Proverbs this year, since our theme for the year is integrity. Teachers may volunteer to join the chapel speaking schedule. This year, we couldn’t fit in all of the teachers who volunteered in August, until January 24. We don’t expect volunteers to speak more than once or twice in the second semester either.
In regard to salary and benefits, for teachers with a Bachelor’s degree the salary is NT$57,000/month (New Taiwan Dollars). Summer school is not guaranteed, since our summer session is quite small. Most teachers want to take 6 weeks off in the summer, which are unpaid weeks. Some teachers will take on special projects with our Academic Dean and have a 4 week vacation. Vacation days during the school year, such as Christmas and Chinese New Year, are paid. We provide airfare and housing. Single teachers share faculty dormitories. The National Health Plan is truly remarkable, with your health costs at only about US$20/month for outstanding care. A car is not needed, since we live in the capital city and public transportation is highly efficient and very inexpensive. Most of us live a 20 minute walk from school. This salary is outstanding, considering you don’t need to pay rent, buy a car or pay car insurance. When you add in the low cost of health care and transportation, you realize how much you will save.
