Financial Controller
The Financial Controller manages and directs the financial systems of VCNP.
Accountable to Director of Operations
Job Qualifications
- Must have in-depth knowledge of Accounting and its procedures
- Must have extensive general ledger knowledge
- Proven Managerial skills
- Must have 3+ years of comparable job experience
- Must possess strong analytical skills
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to manage multiple projects and teams in a detailed and organized fashion
- Must be able to work independently and remain motivated
- Must become an active member of VCNP (Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, must be a regular attender, must tithe, and must be a small group participant)
- Must have a willing/cooperative spirit, a servant’s attitude, and be sensitive to pastoral staff and ministry needs
- Knowledge of “Fund Accounting” is desirable
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee weekly contribution counting, processing, deposit, and reporting
- Oversee preparation of contribution statements
- Maintain weekly attendance and giving records
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
- Prepare Quarterly attendance and giving report
- Oversee finance department functions, such as Disbursement, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable
- Constantly enhance VCNP’s business processes and information flow
- Work with Accounting Specialist to enter Accounts Payable into church software
- Oversee Payroll
- Review and audit expense reports for people who travel
- Review contracts for accuracy and sign off on contracts
- Oversee facility insurance policies
- Oversee transfer of funds between General Fund and bank accounts
- Oversee donated stocks and securities
- Assist Executive Staff in preparing annual operating and capital budgets
- Track budget throughout the year and help staff stay in or under budget
- Maintain General Ledger integrity by constant review of income and expenses
- Work with and report to the board as they request
- Prepare monthly financial reports and analyze variances from the financial plan for the board members
- Maintain and enhance system of internal and external audit processes
- Work with outside auditing firms to make sure we are practicing good financial stewardship methods
- Keep up to date on all articles, laws, reports, etc. which are pertinent to VCNP’s operation and keep staff notified of changes
- Oversee Accounting Specialist
- Understand and be able to perform all function of Accounting Specialist’s job
- When needed act as back-up for Accounting Specialist
- Do bi-annual reviews of Accounting Specialist
- Evaluate Accounting Specialist job performance regularly
- Oversee HR Assistant
- Understand and be able to perform all functions of HR Assistant’s job
- When needed act as back-up for HR Assistant
- Do bi-annual reviews of HR Assistant
- Evaluate HR Assistant’s job performance regularly
- Help and advise HR Assistant in checking for new benefit packages or opportunities
- Oversee Sacred Grounds Bookstore
- Work with Bookstore Manager to maintain financial and ministerial viability of Bookstore
- Evaluate and assist Bookstore Manager on a regular basis
- Do bi-annual reviews of Bookstore Manager
- Oversee Sacred Grounds Coffee Bar
- Work with Coffee Bar Manager to maintain financial and ministerial viability of Bookstore
- Evaluate and assist Coffee Bar Manager on a regular basis
- Do bi-annual reviews of Coffee Bar Manager
- Oversee financial counseling ministry
