A Bit About Us

HSLDA is a Christian non-profit advocacy organization that equips homeschooling families to provide the best educational experience for their children. We do this by caring for each member family and protecting and securing the future of homeschooling. We are firmly committed to serving our members and the homeschool community.

New strategic initiatives at HSLDA require exciting, new technological solutions. To support these efforts, we are looking for a Lead IT Developer to join our IT team.

What's in It for You

  • The opportunity to lead HSLDA’s IT Development team in providing technological solutions to support our mission.
  • A growth-oriented team environment, where all team members are encouraged to learn and improve.
  • A homeschool- and family-friendly work environment that values encouraging the best in every family.
  • A generous, comprehensive benefits package, including family healthcare coverage, life insurance, long-term care, 401k, 13 paid holidays, and generous vacation time—as well as an onsite gym.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Leading the IT development team in maintaining and implementing applications as well as executing and revising projects to meet the changing needs of HSLDA and the homeschooling community.
  • Leading the IT team in designing, coding, and maintaining high-quality technical solutions, including web properties and efficient, logical databases for our organization.
  • Using your expert knowledge in programming languages and standards to mentor and provide training for junior team members.
  • Working with internal teams as a key contributor to solution design and our corporate knowledge base.

What You Need for This Position

  • A passion for consistently delivering quality software and high-quality services to staff and constituents.
  • Excellent communication skills: a talent for listening to end users’ needs, assessing solutions, and delivering informative and organized solutions.
  • The ability to function well on a team—communicating what you’re doing and what challenges you’re experiencing, as well as listening to input from other team members and leaders.
  • A confident yet humble attitude. We expect you to be technically competent and capable, but also willing to grow.
  • An investigative spirit and self-motivation. When something seems off, we expect you to use discernment and the tools HSLDA makes available to research the situation and find a solution or improvement.
  • A thirst for learning. There are dynamic challenges ahead for the IT team, and this leadership position requires someone engaged and excited about learning new skills and applying them to real business problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A discerning temperament and a desire to minister to your team when in need.
  • A bachelor’s degree in related field of study, with 10 years of experience in IT development.
  • Experience with, and a capacity for, leading a team in delivering high-quality solutions on time and within budget.
  • Experience with the following:  Visual Studio, Microsoft IIS, MS SQL Server, ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript, HTML/CSS.
  • Must be a committed Christian and supportive of HSLDA’s mission to help homeschooling families provide the best educational experience for their children.
  • Recognize that this is a full-time, onsite position at our location in Purcellville, VA.
