Job Description:

The full-time salaried Children’s Ministry Director role is to partner with parents and families in our church and school to see kindergarten-fifth graders pursue God and become disciples of Jesus Christ through discipleship of volunteers and families, excellent children’s worship services, and community and relationship building. 

The duties of the Children’s Ministry Director include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain personal spiritual development through Bible reading, prayer, regular worship service attendance and Christian community. 
  • Oversee and coordinate the Sunday morning services for elementary-age children that include age-appropriate worship, Bible teaching, and community-building. 
  • Oversee and coordinate smaller discipleship groups or classes for elementary-age children to deepen their understanding and application of God’s Word and develop deep relationships among the body of Christ.
  • Provide environments of community and relationship building among children and families in similar life stages. (ex. family fun event, family night at the movies, day at the park, etc.)
  • Ensure that all curriculum taught is Biblically sound. 
  • Recruit and retain a willing and enthusiastic team of volunteers whose lives and families provide a godly example for the children to follow.
  • Develop, train, and disciple the teams of volunteers within your department.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about the ministry’s vision, what is being taught to their children, and what events are planned.
  • Communicate weekly with guests and new families, and follow up with students and families that have missed consecutive weeks. 
  • Work with the family ministry team to develop a cohesive plan of discipleship for the family.
  • Collaborate with the family ministry team to provide resources and training that help parents to be spiritual leaders at home.
  • Plan and administrate Summer Kids Camps as directed by Leadership team.
  • Work with the staff and volunteers to plan and administer church-wide retreats, programs and camps, including family events.
  • Maintain open and honest communication with other team members within the church staff.
  • Partner with and support Claiborne Christian School in discipling students and parents. 
  • Spend time with students and families for deeper discipleship. 
  • Submit a yearly ministry plan that reflects the vision of Family Church.
  • Implement and manage the children’s ministry budget, including submitting capital improvements each spring. 
  • Find creative resources and or teaching ideas appropriate for the age levels.
  • Ensure that appropriate safety and security procedures are established and followed in the department; this includes criminal background checks for all staff and volunteers, training on child abuse and protection, health issues, First Aid Care and other procedures to ensure the safety and security of children in the department’s care.
  • Work with other departments to suggest changes and improvements to overall children’s ministry.
  • Attend fully funded conferences and workshops on children’s and family ministry.
  • Visit or contact at least 5 people each week within ministry area in person or by phone.
  • Care for the families and volunteers in Children’s Ministry through hospital visits, prayer, support, etc.

  • A strong and growing personal commitment to Jesus.
  • Willing to do life deeply with a fun, authentic staff team to work toward the same goal of pursuing God and making disciples of Christ
  • A solid family that stands as a godly example for workers and children to emulate. (if married: strong marriage, obedient, not perfect, children who are serving God)
  • Strong interest and belief in the value of Christian education for children.
  • A heart, passion, and love for the family and children, particularly of those in the age group the department serves.
  • Desire to use creativity to see spiritual growth and maturity among children and families. Not afraid to try new things. 
  • Committed to values and vision of the church and of the Family Ministry.
  • Committed to following God and His Word by tithing to the local church.
  • Ability to communicate the gospel clearly to children and families.
  • Teaching, organizational, creative, and administrative skills.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to enable and empower others to carry out work of the department’s ministry and be supportive of their efforts.
  • Self-starter – able to motivate self to carry on sometimes difficult or thankless tasks.
  • An active member of Family Church, fully embracing the church's vision, values, and Statement of Faith.
  • Ability to relate well to children, classroom teachers, and parents.
