SCA conducts pre-employment screening and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.

The Payroll Clerk will assist in all activities regarding the management of employee compensation including entering payroll information, calculating wages, and making payments with the utmost of confidentiality.  The Payroll Clerk shall be spiritually mature and shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is always to honor Christ. REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree with related degree preferred
    • 2+ years of related experience in payroll responsibilities
    • Familiarity with Paychex Flex or similar software preferred
    • Experience in a school setting preferred
  • Skills:
    • Familiarity with general accounting principles
    • Experience in data collection, entry and reporting with great attention to detail and confidentiality
    • Solid knowledge of relevant payroll legislation, policiesand regulations
    • Excellent math and numerical skills
    • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent communication abilities with aptitude in problem-solving
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software. Paychex Flex or similar experience preferred.
    • Proficient research and analytical skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Perform the bi-weekly payroll process while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Collect and enter timekeeping information for all employees.
  • Track leave and overtime hours.
  • Reconcile payroll system deductions to vendor invoices.
  • Enter and maintain payroll and benefits information in various software platforms, including payroll system and various benefit portals.
  • Initiate periodic payments timely either by preparing and administering checks or making direct deposits through a bank payment system.
  • Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes, benefit deductions, etc.
  • Process unemployment, severance, and garnishment payments.
  • Resolve any questions and concerns regarding payroll from employees.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies with payroll or benefit vendors.
  • Prepare and submit reports with payroll information to supervisor.
  • Create and maintain personnel files, oversee I-9 tracking, and assist with various HR recordkeeping functions.
  • Provide additional HR support as needed.
  • Cross-train with accounting colleagues to back-up accounting functions as needed.
