Position Available: Part Time Youth Minister

The Middlebury First United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Youth Minister to:

·         Minister to the youth and their families with the goal of making teenage disciples for Jesus Christ.

·         Work with volunteers and the Christian Education Committee to develop programs and ministries that reach the youth and families within Middlebury FUMC.

 

Youth Minister Responsibilities:

·         Introduce teenagers, grades 5 through 12, to the Love of Jesus and the Christian faith.

·         Develop a volunteer team to assist with the overall youth ministry of the church.

·         Lead a year-round weekly Sunday night discipleship youth meeting.

·         Lead the children’s sermon one Sunday per month during Sunday morning worship services.

·         Submit to the church’s newsletter, a monthly article about youth activities, promoting upcoming events and celebrating past events and activities. Include relevant faith-based articles.

·         Develop both quarterly and annual youth ministry calendars and publish in both print and electronic format.

·         Vision, Organize and Lead youth ministry special events to attract teens in the Middlebury community for the purpose of making teenage disciples for Jesus Christ.

·         Lead teens on spiritual retreat, camps, mission trips, lock-ins, and other creative activities that will draw them together in fellowship and to a closer personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

·         Encourage teens to attend a week-long summer camp experience at Epworth Forest. Encourage junior high teens to attend the week of summer camp at Camp Adventure. Encourage senior high teens to attend a Chrysalis weekend retreat.

·         Encourage teens and families to attend Sunday morning worship services and other ministries within the church.

·         Organize and implement the child protection policy with staff and volunteers who work with teens.

·         Provide background check forms to all prospective volunteers and maintain an up-to-date list of approved volunteers.

·         Serve on the Christian Education committee, preschool board, as well as the Administrative Council Committee as a church staff person.

·         Set boundaries to maintain an open channel of communications with both youth and their parents.

·         Other church duties as instructed by the senior pastor or the Staff Parish Relations Committee. Choose and order curriculum.

 

 

 

 

The ideal Christian candidate will possess the following:

·         A vibrant faith, knowledge of the Bible and a strong personal and public discipleship and prayer life.

·         A passion for and ability to work effectively with youth and their families.

·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively, positively and cooperatively as a member of our church staff.

·         Demonstrated ability to teach / train effectively with both small and large groups.

·         Skill in presenting in a large group (20-50) and work effectively with small groups (3-8).

·         Excellent leadership skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

·         Demonstrated ability to interact enthusiastically, graciously, and responsibly with people of all ages.

·         Demonstrated ability to creatively develop and lead programs and/or large group events.

·         Teachable, with a desire to grow in faith and skills.

·         Working knowledge of child development and current youth culture.

·         Demonstrated organizational / administrative skills.

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to utilize technology relevant to this position.

·         Willingness to be a giving and communing member of the congregation and participate in the many other ministries of the church as a dedicated servant of the church.

 

 

Education / Certification Requirements:

Four-year degree in related field preferred.

 

Employment conditions:

The Youth Minister position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The position is part time and wage based upon (15) hours per week. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year.

 

Accountability and Supervision:

The youth minister will be accountable to the congregation and its mission under the supervision and direction of the Senior Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

 

Hourly Wage

The wage package for this part-time position will be 15 hours of ministry per week at $15.00 per hour. Hours per week can vary. FUMC utilizes direct deposit payroll with the employee’s local bank.

About First United Methodist Church of Middlebury

Church Organist/Pianist, Part-time

A vibrant and active church is seeking an Organist/Pianist to accompany our 9:00 a.m. Traditional style worship service. The organist must embrace Christian values and be dependable and responsible. They must be available for special programs and services and may occasionally accompany the chancel choir, and special vocal groups, or participate in the 11:00 a.m. Praise service.

The organist must be comfortable working as part of a team and will coordinate with the senior pastor and with the worship committee on the weekly order of worship and music selections.

We offer an excellent work and worship environment in a spacious and well-maintained 5-year-old church building. We have up-to-date technology and the successful candidate will be playing both an Allen Renaissance Quantum Organ (3 manuals) and a Steinway/Hamburg D Concert Grand Piano.

Compensation is up to $7800 annually.
