About this Role
The Children's Ministry Director position focuses on collaborating with parents to support children in their journey to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Working under the supervision of the Family and Discipleship Pastor, the Children's Ministry Director oversees the children's ministry strategy at Mount Olive Baptist Church. This includes fostering meaningful relationships, teaching children, spiritual growth, and managing volunteer teams. The Children’s Ministry Director is a leader who equips, empowers, and mentors team members in all aspects of this ministry.
Primary Responsibilities & Tasks of the Children’s Ministry Director
- Model Biblical character and uphold MOBC Core Values.
- Coordinate with the Family and Discipleship Pastor to recruit, implement, and maintain a Children’s ministry team comprised of church members from various walks of life. This aims to advise and support the Children’s Ministry Director in planning and delivering all children’s programs at MOBC.
- Oversee the Nursery, Preschool, and Children’s Ministries on Sunday Mornings, Wednesday Nights, and any other times as needed with the help of the Family and Discipleship Pastor.
- Work with the Family and Discipleship Pastor to establish Biblical goals and milestones for families.
- Cast and communicate clear mission and vision statements for the children’s ministries that support MOBC's overall mission and vision.
- Function as the lead teacher in any class as needed.
- Guide the development and management of the budget under the direction of the Family and Discipleship Pastor.
- Conduct, develop, and maintain background checks, safety, and security procedures.
- Oversee scheduling for regular training and care of the volunteers.
- Provide regular evaluations and feedback to the Family and Discipleship Pastor.
- Develop a strategic scope and sequence for the families from Birth to 5th grade.
- Provide milestone classes for children and parents with the help of the Family and Discipleship Pastor.
- Construct practical onramps and systems to help kids move from guests to members of MOBC.
- Attend all Children’s Ministry events, such as Vacation Bible School, Summer Camp, Fall Festival, summer activities, and other events sponsored by the Children’s Ministry, church, or church staff.
- Attend staff meetings with the entire church staff and the Family Ministry Team Meetings with the Family and Discipleship Pastor and the Next Generation Ministry Leader regularly.
- Develop and cultivate relationships with the local elementary schools.

- Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and become a member of MOBC.
- Maintain healthy tithing of at least 10% toward the mission and vision of MOBC.
- Always speak to protect and maintain the unity of the staff and the church.
- Demonstrate a Christ-like attitude through all interactions with the congregation, staff, and volunteers.
- Invest and invite others to MOBC for worship and discipleship.
Miscellaneous Notes
- This position reports to the Family and Discipleship Pastor.
- This part-time, salaried position averages an estimated 25-30 hours per week. The in-office and out-of-office schedule is agreed upon with the Family and Discipleship Pastor.
- This position may require other duties as assigned by the Family and Discipleship Pastor and the Lead Pastor.
