Job Description:

The Chief Financial Officer & Business Manager is the leader responsible for all of the financial and business operations of the Northwest Baptist Convention.

Financial Accounting

The CFO & Business Manager is responsible to understand and manage the system and processes used in accounts payable, contributions received, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and audit management. The Northwest Baptist Convention is audited annually by outside CPAs. The incumbent in this role is also charged to produce prepared by client schedules, direct interaction with external CPAs, ensuring: the comprehensive completeness of the initial trial balance and tying the final general ledger to the audited statements, controlling the cost of the audit, and scheduling the auditor’s presentation to the executive committee of the board.

Tax Compliance

The CFO & Business Manager is responsible to comply with tax filing requirements for federal forms 720, 941, W-2s, and the annual group exemption filing, and other filings as needed. The incumbent is also responsible to respond to communications from taxing authorities.

Cash Management

The CFO is responsible to manage the cash available to the ministry and prioritizing payments with respect to receipts using professional judgement as to the best application of funds in the moment.

General Management

This role is also responsible for: contracting with outside service providers and financial & general management advice as requested. The leader of the financial and business operations also serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This leader is responsible to offer insight to the SLT on business and financial issues.

Client Services

The Northwest Baptist Convention provides accounting and payroll services to the churches of the convention. The incumbent is responsible to oversee this process and manage the CPA who leads the client services offering.

Education

A four year degree in accounting from an accredited institution is required for this role. Due to the very broad nature of the knowledge required to be successful in this role and responsibilities of the role, there is a very strong preference for an incumbent who is a Certified Public Accountant. A graduate degree is not a requirement for this role; however, because of the strong preference for a CPA, it is highly probable that the incumbent will have engaged in graduate education.

Experience

The incumbent will be able to demonstrate deep experience performing at the management level in financial and business operations functions. As a member of the senior leadership team, the incumbent will be able to demonstrate skillful use of written and verbal communications; this includes the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial professionals in actionable terms.

Additional Requirement

The Business Manager serves on the Senior Leadership Team and also works with the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Baptist Convention. It is vital that the incumbent has a robust spiritual life and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In addition, the incumbent will be an active member of a church of the Northwest Baptist Convention.
